The Spirit of Never Giving Up
"Bowled him!!!! And would you believe, it's Mohammed Siraj!" Said the commentator in a loud voice when Indian Cricket Team won the last test match of the legendary Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England. I was in my workplace watching the match on my device. I jumped out of my seat when Siraj took the last wicket and Indian Team won the match. I was very happy at that time. Whole social media flooded with blessings for team India and especially some few players like Rishabh Pant, Siraj, Chris Woakes, etc.
I saw a very unique thing of human psychology. When a human being once decides NOT TO GIVE UP, then no power on this earth is sufficient to stop him/her. Indian team when came England for this test series, it was criticised by many people and even though some cricket experts. Some said that team India has no chance to win this test series. They said this because we had three big players retired just before this series(Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin) and we had a new captain Shubhman Gill. He was criticised a lot due to his poor stats in test cricket. We had our National treasure Jasprit Bumrah in this squad but all knew that he is not available for all matches. So this team had so many youngsters in the squad. The series started with Indian Team losing it's first match. Indian team had five centurions in the first test match and Jasprit Bumrah had took five wickets in the second innings. Despite of this brilliant performance Indian Team lost the match because of poor fielding. Then came the second test match at Edgbaston, the ground where Indian Team had very poor record. It was a very tough challenge for whole team which was criticised continuously after the first test match loss. But Indian Team played bravely and our captain Gill got his career best double century in the first innings and many other players too contributed. As a result of good teamwork, Indian Team won the test match by a huge margin of 336 runs.
With full of positivity, Indian Team went to Lords Cricket Ground for the third test match. Indian Team played exceptionally well but lost the match by just 22 runs. Bumrah and Siraj gave their very best performance with bat and ball both but all in vain. Whole nation was shattered after watching that moment.
Then comes the fourth test match, a very inspiring one because in this test match I saw a man with a very strong mindset of never giving up, Rishab Pant. He got injured in first innings while batting and was rushed to the hospital immediately for scans. The news came that his foot got fractured with so much swelling.
We all knew that in past he got seriously injured in a car accident. But after that he made a strong comeback. Here he got his foot fractured but despite of that when he saw that his team needs him, he came to bat.
What I think is, this is the potential of a human being who has decided to not to give up in any situation. Not only he came to bat but scored a half century with fractured foot. Indian Team was able to draw that match after coming from a very tough conditions of english bowling attack.
Then came the fifth match. But we didn't had Rishab Pant available for the match, he was in-form batsman and a very essential part of the team. And not to forget that Jasprit Bumrah was also not available for that match. Mostly all english experts were saying that India team will lose this test match and also the series by 3-1. Still India won that match and draw the series with 2-2. But again I saw a very good example of the spirit of never giving up. During the first innings, Chris Woakes, england team bowler got his left shoulder dislocated while fielding. He was unable to bowl in the first innings as well as in the second innings due to his serious injury.
He was in so much pain but his team needed his contribution with bat because England team needed just 17 runs to win and it was just Chris Woakes left as last batsman. He was in pain. He had option to say no as it could have become a career threatening injury if he didn't take care of it. Even if he had said no to come out and bat, no one would criticise him as it was a very painful injury. But once again I say that if a human being once decides not to give up then no power on the earth can stop him/her. He came to bat.
He was struggling with his shoulder while running between the wickets but still he was standing out there for his team. A great mindset of Never Giving Up. Despite his grit, his team lost by just 6 runs short.
Winning and losing is part of the game but giving your 100 percent effort is what it needs. Chris Woakes gave all his 100 percent out there.
We in our day-to-day life, get upset by very small incidents and decide to give up. Many of us give up just because we think that we are not capable of doing those things. But that's not true, we are capable of doing each and everything only if we decide that 'I will never Give Up, no matter whatever the situation is'. Just a small change in mindset can make a huge impact on us as a person. It's all about our mindset. Let's change our mindset and take a oath of Never Giving Up.
